An additional 11 elementary and middle schools will get free breakfast and lunch next school year thanks to the USDA’s Community Eligibility Provision.
Creekside and Lakewood Falls elementary schools and Plainfield Academy are already in the program.
These schools will begin in school year 2023-2024:
Tony Arbogast, Assistant Superintendent for Business & Operations, said he is excited about expanding the program to more schools.
“District 202 schools experience a wide range in income diversity, and this federal program helps to ensure that families in need do not worry about how their students will be able to afford to eat during the school day,” he said.
All students in these schools are entitled to receive a free breakfast and lunch each school day as long as District 202 and its food service contractor Aramark continue to comply with government requirements.
The free student meals are not individualized. Students get two choices at the elementary level and at least three choices at the middle and high school level.
All students with allergies or dietary restrictions must review the menu and ingredients with parents and know what items they should or should not consume.
