Longtime district HR director is new assistant superintendent

Jennifer OrlosDistrict 202 Director for Middle School Administration and Personnel Jennifer Orlos will serve next school year as the assistant superintendent for administration and personnel.

Orlos will replace Tony Manville, who is retiring next summer. The Administration and Personnel department supports District 202’s 3,200 full and part-time employees.

She has worked in her current role since August 2013. As middle school director Orlos also oversees the district’s wide-ranging security planning including working closely with area police departments.

“Jennifer is a valued member of our administrative team,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lane Abrell.  

“Her experiences as a teacher, assistant principal, principal and district director uniquely qualify her to serve as assistant superintendent,” he said.

Orlos started her education career in 1990, working 11 years as an elementary teacher, department chair and administrator, including one year as principal, at Mary of Nazareth School in Harvey, Illinois

She moved to the middle school level in 2002, teaching 7th grade math and social studies at Crete-Monee Middle School in University Park. Orlos also served as a 7th grade dean for a year at Crete-Monee, before becoming an academic advisor for that school.

She came to District 202 in 2006 and served three years as assistant principal at Indian Trail Middle School, then served four years as principal of John F. Kennedy Middle School.

“I am honored to have this opportunity to lead the Administration and Personnel Department,” Orlos said. 

“I am excited about the challenge and working closely with all our building administrators to ensure we are hiring the best people to serve our students,” she said.
